Mother's Day & Mountain

I am a man with a wife and three kids which means I have Mother's Day obligations. So, an early morning mountain climb should get me through a workout and free to start the rest of my day.

BigDan and I had agreed to ride the mountain today. 6:00am at my crib. Easy enough... or at least that was the plan. Not sure exactly what happened, because I woke up late. That was weird, because that *never* happens.

It was BigDan's text msg which woke me at 6:13a. SH*T! luckily, I had prep'd everything the night before, so I didn't have to delay us any more than I already had. Grabbed my gear, hit the garage door and BigDan was waiting outside. Sincerest apologies.

Not too long at all before we are on our way. I made this trek last week, but this was the first Mt. Lemmon ride for Dan in a while. A brief stop at Mile Post zero (MP0), before we began our climb. We agreed that regardless of who lead, we would stop at mile post two (MP2) for a checkpoint (Dan lead the entire climb).

The first mile kicked my butt. I always seem to forget just how hard mile One is. Not only that, but I missed the MP1 sign, so I wasn't sure when we had passed it. Just when the climb started to get a little bit easier, I saw MP2. We had another brief stop at MP2 to collect ourselves and decide how much further we intended to climb. Mile Three seemed to be the easiest one yet. But by this time, Dan and I had agreed that mile three would be our last and it was time to turn for home.

Nice and easy descent and ride back to the crib. It is clearly the 'season' again. We saw no less than 80 cyclist in the 90 minutes we were out. At least two large groups of 30+.

Was a little tired, but feeling good. I think we will probably climb again next weekend. Next mountain climb will likely have a mileage climb goal of 5+.
